Integrated Pest Management for Fly Control
Scattering bait and setting out abatement strips are only part of a complete Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program. Effective IPM involves inspection, documentation, sanitation, exclusion, monitoring and rotation of the entire family of Starbar® Fly control products.
Inspection and Documentation
Solving a fly problem in an IPM begins with inspection. Premise managers need to determine the degree of fly infestation while noting structural and environmental conditions that add to fly harborage. Records should be kept throughout the inspection process, listing the extent of fly infestation, the structural and environmental improvements, and Starbar® products used to eliminate a fly problem.
Exclusion and Sanitation
The goal of exclusion and sanitation is preventing flies from entering a structure and eliminating the reason for them to stay. Exclusion involves making structural repairs such as patching wall openings, weatherproofing doors and windows, trimming trees and shrubs close to the building, as well as installing or repairing screens on windows and attic vents. Sanitation involves eliminating harborages by removing debris from the building and grounds, and cleaning up food, spills and standing water daily.
Monitoring and Rotation
Constant evaluation is essential to long-term fly control. Monitoring allows a premise manager to detect any resistance in a fly problem and address it early with product rotation. Documentation is an integral part of monitoring and rotation. When a fly problem persists, previous treatment methods can be rotated more easily if thorough documentation was done for the site. Using Golden Malrin® Scatter Bait in rotation with QuikStrike® Scatter Bait is an effective way to battle resistance and solidify your IPM program.
